Reach Operational Efficiency with
OPC/PLC Integration
Capture real-time asset performance data to trigger maintenance before failures occur.
What are OPC/PLC Integrations?
OPC (Open Platform Communications) and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) integrations allow MVP One to automatically retrieve real-time data from industrial equipment. This ensures accurate meter readings, reduces human error, and improves predictive maintenance strategies.
Why Use OPC/PLC Integrations?
- Automate data entry to eliminate manual input errors
- Monitor asset health in real-time for proactive maintenance
- Streamline workflows by integrating equipment directly with MVP One
How to Set Up OPC/PLC Integrations
1. Download the OPC Service
- Download the latest OPC Service from the MVP One knowledge base.
2. System Requirements
- The OPC Service must be installed on or have network access to the OPC Server.
- Connectivity: The OPC Service must communicate with MVP One cloud servers.
3. Configuration Set Up
Unzip the downloaded file and locate CMMSdg.OPC.PLCSignalRService.exe.config
Open it with a text editor and update the following:
- Customer Authentication
- OPC Server Credentials (UA Clients Only)
- App Settings
- Client Node
4. Install the OPC Service
- Run as Administrator: Execute
install.cmd
from the root folder - Verify installation: Check that “MVP OPC Service” appears in Windows Services and is running
Adding a PLC Tag to MVP One
- Log in to MVP One
- Navigate to Assets and select the record to attach the tag
- Select Edit and scroll to the Meter section
- Select Edit (or Add if no meter exists)
- Click Attach PLC
- Enter OPC Host Name and click the globe icon
- Select an OPC Server from the dropdown and browse available tags
- Set the update frequency (in minutes) and click Save
Certificate Management
MVP OPC Client Certificate
- The MVP OPC Service Tray (in the system tray) provides status updates and certificate management
- If a certificate is rejected, highlight it and click Trust
OPC Server Client Certificate
- When setting up a PLC tag, the OPC Host Name lookup ensures authentication
- Ensure both MVP One and the OPC Server trust each other’s certificates
Troubleshooting Certificate Issues
- Some OPC servers require manual trust settings (e.g., Ignition OPC Server UI)
- If connections fail, check that the MVP PLC Service certificate is trusted
Best Practices
- Verify Connectivity: Ensure the OPC Service can communicate with both the OPC Server and MVP One
- Keep Credentials Secure: Store login details in a secure location
- Monitor Data Flow: Regularly check that meters update correctly in MVP One
- Use Trusted Certificates: Always approve certificates for secure connections
